Romania is a Carpathian and Danubian country, opened to the Black Sea, in the South-East Europe. It is a member of the European Union since 2007.
The relief is variable and harmonious, and the climate is temperate-continental, characteristic to the Central Europe (hot summers, cold winters, distinct seasons, snowfalls especially in the mountains). Warmest areas are in the South-East area, on the Black Sea shore.
The fauna is reach and varied, in Romania’s forests you can still find stags, deers, bears, foxes, or the wild birds and rare species in the Danube Delta, like pelikans, otters, chamois, grouses, all protected by the law.
Romania has all the natural conditions to become one of the most important european touristic destination. All the regions are interesting, with a particular charm: the Black Sea shore, Bucharest, the capital of Romania, Prahova Valley in the Bucegi Mountains, with megalithic shapes (Sphinx and Babele) and with the possibility to access in small and charming mountains towns, such as Sinaia, Busteni, Azuga, Predeal, Poiana Brasov, Moldavian Monasteries, the Churches in wood from Maramures area, the Danube Delta, Bran (Dracula Castle), the medieval cities (Brasov, Sighisoara, Sibiu, Medias, Deva, Cluj, Alba-Iulia), the spa places (Baile Felix, Baile Herculane, Baile Tusnad, Calimanesti-Caciulata, Olanesti, Sovata, Vatra-Dornei, Eforie Nord etc.).
A main touristical attraction could be Buzau area, with the Mud Volcanos, and a lot of caves in the mountains, but also Movile Cave, in Mangalia, a unique place protected by NASA since 1986, because of the special environment which permet the life without oxygen.
The Black Sea shore is famous at international level because of its touristical resorts: Mamaia, Constanta – the biggest city in the region, known also as Tomis, the city of Ovidius, and Mangalia, the ancient greek citadel of Callatis, nowadays the southern town of Romania, with the resorts of Olimp, Neptun, Jupiter, Cap Aurora, Venus and Saturn.
There are a lot of big museums in Romania, with different branches – arts, history, natural history, technics, in all the cities among the country.
The Republic of Moldavia, in the eastern part of Romania, is a picturesque country with an interesting history and many places to visit, among the most interesting are The Way of the Wine and the rupest churches.
